What does it mean to own your power? In the October 2026 episode of Journey of the Master Podcast, Sara Landon teaches that your power is your ability to influence the events, outcomes, and circumstances of your life through the way you feel, think, act, and behave — not control over anyone else. Her October message, Own Your Power, centers on one question she calls life-changing: “What am I giving my power to?” Asking it again and again brings you back into the present moment, back into your source energy, and back into radical personal responsibility for the extraordinary life you came here to live.

Sara calls this one of her favorite topics, because she sees it time and time again: most of us move through our days doing what we think we should do, never realizing we are navigating life from a very limited level of our own power. The good news is that your power was never taken from you. You have simply been giving it away — and you can choose differently, starting now.

What Does It Mean to Own Your Power?

Sara is clear from the start: this is not about controlling other people. “It’s not an energy of control,” she says. It is an energy of taking back your own power in your own life, over your own circumstances and conditions.

She defines power as your ability to influence the events, outcomes, and circumstances of your life based on your energy, vibration, frequency, presence, attitude, knowledge, character, and maybe even your experiences. When you own your power, you are in charge of your own state of being — your own energy — and therefore your actions, your responses, and your outcomes.

Feeling powerless to be who you want to be or to have the healthy body, happy relationship, or prosperity you desire is, she says, one of the most awful feelings there is. Being in your power, on the other hand, leads to extraordinary results — magic, miracles, and truly the power to create and manifest the life you really want.

How You Give Your Power Away (and How to Stop)

Unknowingly, Sara explains, we learn throughout life to give our power away time and time again — through habits, stories, and ways of thinking. In the episode she names the most common places our power goes:

  • A person — like the fifth grade teacher who told you that you weren’t very smart, or a former boyfriend or girlfriend whose words you keep repeating to yourself.
  • A story — “things never work out for me,” or a story about who you used to be and the failures you’ve had.
  • A worst-case scenario — something that might happen, but probably won’t.
  • The past or the future — feeling bad about something that happened, or worrying about what might come.
  • Social norms and expectations — doing something a certain way because everybody does it that way, even when you know it isn’t true for you.

You may still choose to go along with something, Sara adds — but when you choose from a conscious, intentional place, you do so aligned to your power.

Many of these stories, she points out, are built on what someone said about us decades ago — words that probably weren’t even about you, but about that person not feeling good enough or worthy. Yet we take them on as beliefs and keep giving our power to them.

The One Question That Brings You Back: “What Am I Giving My Power To?”

At the heart of the October 2026 message is a single question that Sara says has been life-changing for her — the number one thing that helped her come into her own power, at times when she didn’t even realize her power was outside of her.

Whenever you feel powerless, stuck, or like a victim, or catch yourself telling a story about why you can’t do what you want to do, Sara invites you to stop and ask: What am I giving my power to?

Keep asking until you reach the root

Sometimes the answer is obvious. But if you keep asking, Sara says, it goes deeper and deeper until you reach the root of the subconscious program or belief about your power. You might discover an unconscious habit of telling a story about something that happened decades ago — still receiving your power even though it isn’t present in this moment.

Use it for the past and the future

If you are worried about the future, ask what you are giving your power to. If you are feeling bad about something in the past, ask again. Sara says the question will instantly bring you into this moment, where you can choose to be in your power and operate from it.

All of your power is in the now moment.

The very awareness of where your power has gone, she explains, is what shifts you into a more empowered place. You notice, you catch the behavior, and you choose again.

Can Anyone Take Your Power Away? Why We Fear Owning It

Sara is often asked how to get rid of the controlling dictators in the world who seem to take people’s power. Her answer: so long as there are people willing to give their power away, there will always be unconscious people wanting to take that power.

No one and nothing can ever take your power from you.

Leaders and mentors who are truly in their own power, Sara notes, aren’t trying to take your power; they are trying to empower you.

Radical personal responsibility

So why are people afraid of their power? According to Sara, the number one reason is that owning it means you are completely and totally responsible for your life, your circumstances, and your conditions. As long as your power sits outside of you, something else gets to be the reason you are not living the life you came here to live.

Sara sees it the other way around: she doesn’t want anybody else to be responsible for her life. When you are responsible, all you have to do in any moment is come into your power and open to your source energy, and opportunities you couldn’t have imagined begin to open up. She calls it radical personal responsibility.

If something comes up as you read this — “my spouse won’t let me,” “I have young kids,” or a parent’s voice telling you at seven that you weren’t good enough — Sara says that’s okay. Notice what you’re giving your power to, and know you can always come back to complete responsibility for your life.

Take your power back gently, not through chaos

Sara cautions that if you wait until you are sick of feeling powerless, you may take your power back in a way that creates trauma, drama, and chaos. It doesn’t need to be that way. You can reclaim it in a way that is conscious, gentle, and intentional. You were the one who gave it away — and that’s okay, because it helped you realize your power is for you. Your power can’t work for someone else, and someone else’s power can’t work for you.

Everything Is Happening for You: Success Principle #5

Success principle number five from Sara’s book The 15 Success Principles for Self-Realization (also a course) is, she says, one of the most important teachings, especially for understanding why things happen in your life. You may have heard that everything is happening for you, not to you. Sara says a very important part is missing from that statement, and she reads the full principle in the episode:

Everything is always happening for you to bring you into new levels of your power so that you can get clear on what you really want and choose to create your reality the way you want it to be.

Every challenge is an invitation to get clear on what you want and consciously choose your reality — a theme that echoes Sara’s earlier teaching on Your Reality Shift. What do you want the story, your circumstances, and your relationships to be? Once you own your power, it is yours to choose.

Sara’s story: the deal that fell apart

Well over a decade ago, Sara was pursuing an opportunity with partners to acquire a company. One partner, a good friend of the owner, held the main relationship and drove the team. Sara put in a lot of money, time, and resources, certain it was the next perfect step.

Then the relationships deteriorated and the deal fell apart. Sara felt angry and totally victimized — until the question came: what am I really giving my power to here? She saw she had created a story that he had more power, and that only he could make it happen, because he was older, more experienced, and more successful in her industry.

As she kept asking, she realized she didn’t need someone else to create the business and life she wanted. No one ever makes it alone, she adds — she credits her incredible team — but you can’t give your power away to those people. When you are in your power and empower them, extraordinary things happen. The collapse, she now sees, was happening for her, bringing her into new levels of her power.

Your Power Is Love: Stop Dimming Your Light

Sara noticed the same pattern with certain people in her family, where she would dim her light and play small because they seemed more powerful. Then she realized owning her power had nothing to do with force or control.

My power and your power, our power is love.

Your power, she says, is bringing the truth of who you are — the light and the love that you are. Someone might have more experience, money, or success than you, but your power is your source energy, the light that can only shine through you, the love only you can be. If this heart-centered view of power speaks to you, Come Into Your Heart is a beautiful companion.

When you know your true divine nature — the part of you that is Source, God, the divine — and you know this source energy is always available and can make anything and everything possible, Sara says you become unstoppable, and your extraordinary life begins to unfold before your eyes. When the Story You’re Giving Power To Is the Opposite of the Truth

Sara’s second story comes from her corporate career. She took over a team whose top producer drove much of the revenue but was causing issues with teammates. Sara instantly created a story: if she isn’t here, I’m going to fail.

For months she put up with things she knew were not right, giving her power to a story and to that person. When she saw it was hurting the team, a new thought arrived: what if the story is exactly the opposite — what if the team becomes even more successful? In that moment, Sara felt all of her power coming back.

She had the honest conversation. The woman wasn’t happy at first, but later came back and told Sara, “You changed my life.” New people joined and the whole team thrived. Sara’s point: you don’t only give your power to a person — you create a story about why you have no power over your circumstances, and that story can be the opposite of the truth.

How to Own Your Power Every Day: Practices from This Episode

Sara offers simple, gentle ways to live this teaching. Here are the practices she shares in the October 2026 episode:

  • Ask the question. Whenever you feel stuck, powerless, or like a victim, ask: “What am I giving my power to?”
  • Keep asking. Let the question go deeper until you reach the root belief or old story underneath it.
  • Imagine an angel on your shoulder. Picture it continually asking, “Where’s your power? Where’s your power?” — and notice where your power is in this moment.
  • Come into the present before you act. If your power is outside of you, the most important thing you can do is become present and come into your power. Sara says you don’t even want to make choices, start that business, start that relationship, or begin that health journey until you are in your power.
  • Choose the story you want. Ask what you want the story, your circumstances, and your relationships to be — then choose the reality you want to create.
  • Be gentle with yourself. You may have spent a lifetime giving your power away in ways you never realized. As soon as you see it, it no longer has power over you.

This shows up everywhere, Sara reminds us: in your relationships, your health and body, your business and work, your finances and relationship to money, and your relationship to freedom.

And when you think of anyone you love, Sara notes, what you really want is for them to feel empowered over their own life, too. By owning your power, you become an example of what’s possible — a way shower into what is really possible. (Explore that role further in Wealthy Wayshower.)
